TRSTENO – STON (half day tour)

TRSTENO-STON

Half day tour

This tour will take you to Trsteno, a small village on the Adriatic coast about 18 km north-west of Dubrovnik. Arboretum Trsteno is the oldest and the most beautiful Renaissance Park in Croatia. It was conceived and created in the last decade of the 15th century. For centuries famous Dubrovnik seafarers had been bringing in the exotic plants on their return from the far-off journeys. The beauty of its natural ambiance and the exuberant vegetation makes Trsteno one of the most beautiful parts of the Dubrovnik area. The villas and fountains add more charm to the park. This park which has later become a Botanical Garden is still developing and changing.

After a leisurely stroll through the botanical garden, we depart for Ston.

Ston is among the first towns in Europe to be built according to a definite urban plan. It is a historical town which at the time of the Dubrovnik Republic had an important strategic role: its salt works were worth a fortune, and the strong defensive walls were a great protection in those turbulent times. After the Chinese wall, they say that this is the longest preserved wall in the world. It is important to mention that the salt work is still working and the salt is still produced the same way it has been produced for the centuries. Because of its magnificence and a long tradition of oyster and mussel cultivation and fishing, Ston is a favorite tourist destination as well as the gastronomical paradise.
